**Purpose and Scope**
**The Sr. Material Engineer (Metallurgist)'s** key responsibility is to interface with the Timken’s supplier base, as well as Timken’s workforce and leaders to ensure customer requirements and product quality are met, with an emphasis on metallurgy & raw materials studies. The Sr.



Material Engineer (Metallurgist)'s ensures that the compliance to the corporate requirements and customer specifications at the Timken plants and at suppliers by auditing Timken plant, suppliers, communicating and interpreting Timken specifications as well as helping plants to resolve customer complaints. This position is also responsible to maintain the steel inspection system. As part of the Global Metallurgical Quality this position is the main corporate support for
global metallurgical issues.
**Education / Experience**
Must have Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Engineering (Mechanical, Metallurgy preferred).
5+ years of experience related to foundry and steel mill processes, metallurgical lab management.
5+ years of experience in experience with metallurgical sample preparation, evaluation of ferrous microstructures, evaluation of through hardened bearing steel, carburizing, evaluation of carburizing steel microstructures, induction heat treating, mechanical testing of metals, cast iron, welding, nondestructive testing, powder metal, and experience with domestic and international material standards.
**Responsibilities**
- Provide metallurgical support for all Timken product lines.




- Provide solutions to any major customer issues related to materials and metallurgy.
- Leads the resolution of internal quality issues concerning heat treat, process control and materials.
- Be the main contact for plant metallurgist support globally.
- Develop, qualify and audit heat treat, forging and casting suppliers. Maintain and publish supplier score cards.
- Responsible of maintaining the Steel inspection system including trouble shooting and results publication as well as develop standard working procedures.
- Develop specifications and reconcile and resolve differences between Timken and customer/supplier specifications.
- Train new metallurgists and engineers.
- Lead Metallurgical test review for all new programs and suppliers,



provide adjustment and recommendations based on their findings in materials properties, Chemical and mechanical.
- Performs supplier audits of suppliers as applicable, in their process, labs and testing operations.
- Perform new supplier risk evaluation and manufacture feasibility, assessments.
- Base on metallurgical findings, coordinates answers to Supplier Reports and Corrective Actions.
**Technical/Functional Skills**
Experience in special metallurgical tools including heat treat and process control, metallography, CQI-9, forging process and mechanical test equipment as well as ability of statistical analysis.
Must be fluent in Technical and Business English language, written and verbal.
Availability to travel, position requires 50 - 60 % (domestic and/or international) valid US Visa.
Ability to train/teach and mentor metallurgists/engineers associates.

Strong negotiation and influential skills.
Ability to present data effectivel.
Strong problem-solving skills.
