**Job summary**:
The goal of the Consultant is to ensure the timely delivery of high-quality consultancy advice to international and regional clients on sustainability topics. You will play a leading role in the development and overall management of proposals on corporate plastic footprinting, sustainable material strategies, and national-level circularity transition roadmaps. For the implementation of projects, you will manage small project teams. You will be the main point of contact for the client and may also act as a collaborator, providing specific inputs or serving a specific role on a mandate. In addition, you will support the development of new services and solutions at South Pole to address the
circular economy transition.
The Circular Economy team at South Pole is a small, international and growing team. We support private and public sector organisations in assessing and reducing their role in waste. We are very connected to the climate change and biodiversity experts at South Pole, embedding Circular Economy strategies in a broader sustainability context.
**Main tasks & responsibilities**:
- Manage medium-size sustainability consulting mandates throughout their entire project cycle: initiation, planning, design, execution, monitoring, controlling and closure.
- Plan and implement projects to ensure the most efficient and highest-quality implementation.
- Stakeholder coordination for project implementation: support collaborating with government agencies, development entities, academia,
and industry partners to identify priority areas for intervention and recommend evidence-based solutions.
- Analyse scientific literature, policy documents, and industry reports to stay informed about emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in the field.
- Map and process critical data for materials flow analysis to assess key circularity and sustainability performance indicators.
- Conceptualize and develop thought leading content for presentations and publications.
- Offer technical expertise and support to partners and stakeholders in the projects seeking to address plastic pollution through capacity-building initiatives, training programs, and educational workshops.
- Interact and build relationships with our international, regional and local clients.
- Develop proposals for the private and public sector on plastics sustainable material strategies,
and circularity transition roadmaps in close collaboration with the Key Account Management team and senior consulting professionals to support business development activities.
- For small advisory projects, occasionally provide high-level technical guidance and perform technical review of proposals and deliverables.
- Develop and improve specialised skills and knowledge linked to the topics and services offered by South Pole.
- Support senior consulting and key account management teams in further developing South Pole’s thought leadership, services, products, marketing materials and offerings.
- Topics of engagement may include: corporate plastic footprints, target setting, strategy development and implementation, country-level plastic pollution baseline analysis, lever impact assessment and mitigation strategies including:
innovation in packaging/plastic alternatives, solutions for substituting single-use plastic; system-change scenario definition and transition roadmap development, circular economy and plastics overarching policy and reporting standards, MSW management.
**Requirements**:
Essential
- University degree Environmental Sciences, Chemistry, Material Sciences, or Engineering, Economics or other sustainability-related disciplines.
- Relevant knowledge of sustainability challenges and solutions within the plastics value chain, including but not limited to plastics pollution and circularity.
- Strategic thinking and analytical mindset.
- Relevant work experience (the expectation is a minimum of 3 years) in sustainability
