Your role and responsibilitiesIn this role, you will have the opportunity to provide strategic legal counsel and uphold the highest standards of integrity within ABB.

The work model for the role is: Hybrid #LI-Hybrid.
This role is contributing to the Motion Business Area LATAM (Mexico, Central America & Caribbean) from Mexico.
You will be mainly accountable for:
Act as Business Partner to the Motion Business in LATAM, whilst maintaining an independent position.Develop close working relationships with ABB internal customers including commercial business teams, sales, finance, HR, EHS, and supply chain functions.Develop contract strategy based on customer requirements, ABB policies, and the overall execution strategy considering risk, pricing, scope, and schedule.Draft and negotiate commercial contracts with customers and suppliers for the Motion Business across LATAM, including but not limited to Mexico, Central America & the Caribbean, as well as frame agreements on a global level or between multiple Business Areas.Collaborate with other Legal Counsels in the development of contract standards, templates,



and guidelines and ensure their implementation and operationalization within Mexico, Central America & the Caribbean and across Latin America.Provide training and guidance to the Motion Businesses in Mexico, Central America & the Caribbean and across Latin America.Develop and implement risk mitigation and opportunity plans together with the local Project Managers and/or Sales Managers.Ensure that relevant (sub) contracts contain appropriate contract terms and conditions to protect ABB's interest, including flow-down of main contract terms.Provide general guidance and management of legal issues in respect of competition laws, privacy and data protection including GDPR, product liability and warranty claims,



and other legal matters that arise within the business in collaboration with other members of the global ABB legal team and internal and external subject matter experts.Support in managing contractual claims and advise on the resolution of disputes or civil/commercial litigation through external advisors when necessary.Support our business with other general legal advice and questions related to integrity; may assist in investigation and resolution of any integrity issues that arise for Motion Businesses within LATAM.Be an active member of the Motion Americas and global Legal & Integrity team and assist with other legal matters and projects as assigned.Qualifications for the role5-7+ years post qualification experience practicing commercial law, either as a private practice associate, with the government, or as an in-house legal counsel.Law degree and passed the bar examination.Member in good standing of the bar in at least one Latin American country (Mexico or Panama preferred)



with no disciplinary history in any jurisdiction.Cross-training, experience, or admission to practice law across multiple jurisdictions in LATAM and/or elsewhere in the world is highly desirable.Fluency in Spanish and English with strong communication, presentation and networking skills, and ability to review legal documents in both languages is a must.Portuguese language proficiency at a level sufficient to review contracts and other legal documents in Portuguese would be an advantage.Strong drafting and negotiation skills and ability to work in a complex international environment.Experience advising on both products and service-related legal issues is required.Experience with projects related contracts, distribution/partner agreements, government contracting,



and intellectual property is desired.Experience with digital law (SAAS, cyber law, AI, data protection and privacy, etc.)
is highly desirable.Having experience in similar industry would be an advantage.Ability to work independently with limited supervision is required.Must be well-organized and able to manage multiple assignments simultaneously under deadline pressure.Candidates with a practical mind-set, who have a proactive "hands-on" attitude, exposure to cross country collaboration, and experience in a multicultural environment are desired.The capability to be flexible and adaptable in a changing and challenging environment and think 'out of the box' when unexpected/unplanned events arise, together with the capacity to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables within a robust compliance framework where only limited standardization may exist,



will be a key to success in this role.This role will report to the ABB Motion Regional General Counsel for the Americas in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA, with a dotted-line to the Business lead for Motion – LATAM in Santiago, Chile.
The position may be based in Mexico City, Panama City, or possibly Bogota.
Other locations in Latin America where the ABB Motion business maintains a staffed office will also be considered.
The successful candidate will be expected to work from ABB offices on a regular basis - ordinarily at least two days per week.
