.The successful candidate will form part of the LATAM HR Legal team who provide employment law support to the full range of businesses within Citi in LATAM.
The HR Legal Head for Citi's LatAm Cluster is responsible for managing a team of employment lawyers based within LATAM and serves as a key strategic partner to senior business stakeholders and functional partners in matters of employment law within that cluster.
This role has a significant degree of responsibility and authority.
The role sits within the Banking and International, Client and Legacy Franchise team and reports to the HR Legal head for that team.
As head of the cluster,
the LatAM head will be expected to contribute to the development of the global team in terms of common approaches and issues and be able to report and escalate within the global construct.
The role will be located in Mexico and the chosen candidate should have a license to practice law in Mexico and will also form part of the HR Legal team in Mexico heading up the Mexico HR Legal team.Responsibilities:Serve as a partner and advisor providing legal assistance and support to business stakeholders regarding all employment & HR matters, such as employment contracts, claims of discrimination, and employment-related arbitration.Provide critical inputs on compliance with employment laws and regulations; provide counsel to managers regarding compliance with employment laws.Accomplish results by leveraging networks/connections, colleagues, and peers within the organization, including compensation teams, ER teams, and internal investigatory teams.Proactively identify, evaluate, and contribute to the appropriate management of legal, regulatory, and reputational risk.Apply sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct, and business practices.Escalate, manage,
and report control issues with transparency, as well as effectively supervise the activity of others and create accountability with those who fail to maintain these standards.Manage with the team a significant caseload of litigation and liaise with litigation colleagues and country counsel in relation to country-based litigation and handle directly complex cases.Manage a team of employees day-to-day and provide oversight, mentoring, and general pastoral support.The role will provide contentious and non-contentious employment advice within Mexico to a wide stakeholder base including the business, compliance, legal, HR, ER, and management.
There will be day-to-day responsibility for managing complex and significant matters including cases within the litigation portfolio.The role will also day-to-day supervise and mentor a less experienced employment lawyer also based in Mexico.Qualifications:Approximately 10+ years of specific relevant legal experience with some experience working in an in-house legal role in financial services; previous managerial experience.Excellent leadership, interpersonal, organizational, and relationship management skills
