**Job Overview**:
The Principal Civil/Structural Designer directly impacts the effectiveness of their team and related team.
They exchange ideas and information relating to Civil/Structural Design effectively.
They may work autonomously within established Civil/Structural Design procedures and practices.
They act as a lead, coordinating the work of others.
The Principal Civil/Structural Designer proposes improvements to processes and methods within the Civil/Structural Design discipline.
**Key Tasks and Responsibilities**:
- Take the lead role on the civil/structural design team
- Ensure the accuracy of the design drawings
- Work directly from calculations and vendor design drawings
- Check vendor documentation to ensure they comply with design drawings
- Attend internal progress meetings
- Assist the Project Lead Engineer in the preparation of the project engineering plan
- Handle the performance, coordination, and quality of all civil, structural, and architectural modeling and design/drafting work within the assigned project
- Ensure completion of the project tasks and deliverables within the approved budget and schedule
- Ensure deliverables and work processes meet department procedures and standards with minimum rework and design errors reported from the field
- Report status to upper management
- Ensure effective management of change and responsibility for schedule and quantities
- Design offshore and subsea hardware and subsea component
- Develop and modify 3D drawings, models, and specifications for civil and structural projects
- Work closely with engineering to complete and validate the offshore structures
- Provide technical support to the project team, including identifying and resolving design issues
- Prepare and deliver progress reports to management as needed
- Contribute to the development and implementation of design standards and procedures
**Essential Qualifications and Education**:
- Associate Degree in Design Drafting
- Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Accounting, or Finance degree or technical school certification and college is a plus
- Minimum of 10 years of work experience in Civil Design, Modeling & Drafting
- Minimum of 5 years of design lead or management experience in Heavy Industrial/ Oil & Gas type facilities
- Mastery of current engineering design and drafting software packages and plant layout design
- Familiarity with design codes such as AISC, ACI, NFPA, IBC, AASHTO, and ASCE
- Ability to maintain the design within our company methods and procedures
- Ability to independently organize and prioritize work assignments and deal with conflicting priorities
- Ability to negotiate issues with project engineers, clients, vendors, and partners
- Effective communication skills and professional ethics
- Experience using Intergraph S3D and Smart Sketch
- 3-D Modelling and design of Hardware and subsea components
- AutoCAD 2D, AutoCAD 3D, and Inventor
- Experience and designing offshore structural components and secondary structures
- Experience designing hardware and subsea components (such as PLETs/PLEMs, Manifolds, SUTAs, and Jumpers)
- Strong understanding of Smart Sketch workflow
- Demonstratable knowledge in the development of view styles, labels, drawings, and report templates
- Automation in Smart3D using NET
- Conceptual thinker with the ability to implement creative solutions
- Leadership or management experience
- Vessel drafting experience is a plus
