This Capacity Engineering position works within the SaaS Engineering Strategic Operations organization specifically the SaaS Decision Support portfolio. This team supports in all its flavors SaaS Cloud capacity engineering, forecasting and delivery for a shared collection of SaaS products and services globally. This team originated at the OCI cloud hardware & capacity layer(s), ensuring availability across all SaaS production products, and now translates this perspective into business-critical strategies to help assure product service reliability and program initiative delivery globally on OCI cloud. This role goes further driving into the multiple SaaS products to understand their base end-to-end capacity configuration and design needs,
technical dependencies, and overall behavioral characteristics to better _predict _the business needs from one to five years out as well as improve the service reliability and cost efficiencies within the OCI cloud platform. This will be done through a strong partnership with 32+ SaaS product teams, going deep into their specific architecture to comprehend and convey capacity improvements and optimization opportunities that directly influence reliability and infrastructure operating margins, as well as deliver strategic initiatives informing and steering our EVP top 10 focus annually.
This team solves complex SaaS problems related to infrastructure cloud tech stack starting with capacity management as well as work with peer Data Science and development teams to automate prediction and prevention of capacity supply shortfalls within the supply of necessary components to satisfy demand. This role will recommend and team to design, develop and deploy automation primarily around OCI cloud capacity to improve the availability, scalability,
and efficiency of Oracle SaaS products and services. Will be expected to understand cloud hardware/software stack designs, recommend architecture standards, and evaluate deployment methods for large-scale distributed systems. Regular facilitation of service capacity planning and demand forecasting, usage and cost performance analysis, as well as system to environment to customer tuning will be a core requirement.
**_What You'll Do _**
- **_Service Accountability _**_-You will be part of the SaaS StratOps Decision Support Capacity Engineering team, whose mission is to assure the continued global SaaS production capacity availability, optimization, business “buffer”, reserve management, scaling automation and provisioning, metering capacity limits control, and business governance through quota API / system automation. _
- **_Ownership Scope _**_- As a StratOps Decision Support Capacity Engineer, you will understand the end-to-end configuration, technical dependencies, and overall behavioral characteristics of the production services you collaborate with. In partnership with the Product Management & Development teams, you will have the responsibility to ensure that mission critical services and initiatives can occur at scale (programs, launches, etc.) as prioritized directly by the SaaS EVP. You will do this by meeting regularly with the service(s), translating OCI Cloud technology stack to the product need for capacity and technology, and responding to this need by ensuring forward looking availability via numerous “mechanisms” (supply signaling, automated reserve management, provisioning workflow enhancements, etc.). _
- _Service capacity demand characteristics including scaling, as well as monthly/annual demand and technical roadmaps inflections over time (mid-tier/database/storage tuning and conversion ex. Minimum build characteristics, bursting, auto-scale characteristics, etc) _
- _Service tuning needs, optimizing resource utilization, as load patterns fluctuate _
- _Instrumentation and metrics that clearly describe the service behaviors and provide decision support rollups for senior SaaS management (operations/product/dev) _
- _Resiliency and recoverability, including backup/restore and disaster recovery capacity requirements _
- **_Technical Expertise _**_- You will have a deep understanding of cloud capacity topology and their dependencies required to troubleshoot issues and define mitigations.
You will bring this expertise to bear in driving cloud capacity reliability improvements in the services you engage with. This role translates base recipe capacity “components (block storage, AMD/Intel compute core, Database instances, networking stacks) into aggregate business value (environments, reliability, business profiling). _
