JOB SUMMARY:
In this role, you will provide leadership to a team of Supplier Quality Engineers in our Monterrey, Mexico Operations.
Primary areas of focus and responsibility include: to reduce Cost of Quality and incurred by the company, implementation of Supplier Quality procedures, tracking supplier performance, nonconformance resolution, supplier development activities, continuous improvement initiatives, and localization of supplied products.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Other duties may be assigned:
- Work directly with suppliers to dramatically improve overall part quality and drive improvements to their overall quality systems.
- Oversee the supplier certification program.
- Participate in NCMR failure analysis activities, drive corrective action when appropriate, and ensure company concerns are adequately addressed by the supplier.
- Interface with supplier's engineering and quality management concerning problems reported.
Ensure that adequate corrective & preventive action is taken to preclude recurrence.
- Penetrate the supplier's organization to understand the players who can affect change on pricing, delivery, quality improvement, and other key functions within the organization.
- Develop control plans that define the supplier's processes, identify those areas of risk and institute quality tools and programs that focus on identification and prevention of quality defects.
- Verify that suppliers are performing quality and process audits, maintaining performance metrics, and has a Continuous Program in place focused on safety and quality.
- Drive continuous improvement in supplier performance through utilization tools such as DOE, Six Sigma, DMAIC, FMEA, SPC, 8D Root Cause Analysis, and Lean.
- Maintain and Analyze Key Performance Indicators and Cost of Poor Quality data to identify recurring trends and drive improvement actions to reduce internal and external failure costs.
- Develop Quality Plans and provide quality support for new product introduction (SNAP and FAI activities).
- Provide quality training to functional owners and process owners as business needs dictate.
- Participate and assist in supplier failure analysis activities, drive opportunities for improvement, motivate supplier's management to achieve agreed quality metrics.
- Ensure supplier report card process is in place and routine Supplier Business Reviews are scheduled and conducted.
- Generate appropriate performance metrics and prioritize and drive resolution of issues.
- Develop and drive department projects such as reducing the need for incoming inspections, vendor to stock improvement, electronic certificates of compliance and parallel audit expansion.
Willingness and flexibility for business travel both domestically and abroad, when required.
Travel required may be as much as 30%.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelors of Science in Engineering or other related technical field.
Master Degree in Quality or Operations preferred.
- Five (5) to 10 years in a Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, and/or Engineering role, with a minimum of 5 years in Manufacturing and/or Quality.
- Able to serve as an integral member of the Monterrey Management Team, providing strategic direction and articulating results of Supplier Quality issues impacting the Monterrey and Global Supply Chain operations.
- Ability to identify and solve root causes of supply chain quality problems.
- Ability to combine data, good judgment,
and intuition to drive improvements and make timely business decisions.
- Collaborate effectively across a diverse network to learn and improve.
Remain open minded for improvement opportunities and change towards striving for best-in-class supply chain performance.
- Excellent leadership skills with a passion to embrace change for on-going operations and new initiatives within and external to the Global Supplier Quality organization.
- Able to demonstrate strong analytical and problem solving skills.
