**Job Description Summary**: As an Embedded Software Engineer, you'll help the team to identify, develop, evaluate, and introduce software design changes required to support controlling functions in all our newest aviation engines.

This position will require from you to be up to date and be a leader in own technical specialty so that you can lead or provide key technical direction of several projects with relevant business impact, important to meet our short-term and long-term needs with our customers.
You'll also have opportunities to help solving field issues and to work with directly with our suppliers and customers.
**Roles and Responsibilities**





The Embedded Software Engineer will collaborate with the Software Development team in the Controls organization within the Aviation Engines Division, working in some of our newest engines such as the GE9X, LEAP and Passport models.
The engineer in this position will be responsible for leading software development and testing efforts of one or more functions supporting the overall engine control logics (e.g., memory and file management, OS and ground support equipment interaction, data reporting and aircraft communication).
The main responsibilities in this position are:

- Work within the guidelines of applicable GE Policies and Procedures, Engineering Standards, Design Customer Operating Procedures, Specifications, Government and Commercial Standards, and special security requirements.
- Define technical schedule cost and program requirements, including resource estimations.
- Monitor and communicate project status, business issues, and significant developments.
- Lead the software development and testing efforts of assigned components, assemblies, processes, or systems and solve complex high-impact problems.




- Provide technical engineering support to improve or resolve design, performance, manufacturing, supplier, or field issues.
- Lead the solution of complex technical problems related to low-level software design and implementation.
- Document technical data generated to substantiate design and testing decisions consistent with engineering policies and procedures.
- Effectively communicate and provide recommendations to internal customers through the analysis, preparation, and presentation of technical data.
- Participate as a presenter in technical and program reviews with senior leaders.
- Concurrently work on multiple projects, monitoring progress and quality, and ensuring schedule requirements are met.




- Become a recognized technical expert in software functions supporting the overall engine control logics and governing embedded systems.
- Coach and mentor others in the analysis, design, test, and integration related to assigned components and assemblies that meet business standards, practices, and procedures, and meet the program requirements.
- Check own and other people's work.
- Look for continuous improvement and lead the implementation of innovative design and development ideas.
- Conduct assessments and develop action plans to anticipate and respond to problems.
**Required Qualifications**:

- Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer, Electronics, Mechatronics or related field.
- More than 3 years of demonstrated experience and contributions in a similar role or previous position related to embedded systems development.
- Effective written and oral communication skills in English and Spanish.




Must be able to maintain a normal day-to-day fluid conversation in English on any topic with minor mistakes (mistakes that do not affect clear understanding).
Must have fluency, rhythm, and sufficient self-confidence in the language to be able to handle meetings and technical conversations.
- Experience with intermediate project management activities: estimations, resource allocation, risk management and project tracking.
- Solid programming skills in ANSI C/C++.
- Experience identifying and providing solutions for problems found in electronic hardware/software interfaces.
- Presentation Skills: ability to communicate with Senior Leadership.
- Demonstrated ability in managing projects across functions.
- Capable of coaching others to accomplish assignments.
- Demonstrated interpersonal and leadership experience.




- Demonstrated ability in establishing common goals and objectives
- Demonstrated ability to influence others and to lead small teams.
- Experience leading initiatives of moderate scope and impact.
**Desired Characteristics**
- Certified Lean Six Sigma Green/Black Belt or Lean Leader.
- Knowledge of Python & Perl programming languages.
- Experience with model-based design principles and tools such as Ansys SCADE or Matlab Simulink.
- Experience with Real-Time Operating Systems.
- Experience with configuration management principles and tools such as IBM DOORS, Change & Synergy.
- Familiarity with RTCA's DO-178 standard.
- Familiarity with ARINC-664 (AFDX) and/or ARINC-429 standards.
