The Trade Compliance Specialist is a key member of the NAMER Compliance team. They play a critical role in the import and export processes and ensuring compliance with customs and trade regulations. This position will work closely with customs brokers in the US, CA, and MX and internal teams to support the company’s import and export programs.
They will maintain the company’s classification database, import entry audits and ensure proper recordkeeping policies are followed. This position reports to the NAMER Region Procurement Service Business Line.
**Responsibilities**:
- Classify products in accordance with the Harmonized System (HTSUS, WCO), maintain HS databases, and provide proper classification for entry declarations and internal teams.- Respond to import/export compliance inquiries.- Provide administrative support for department processes and procedures.- Audit and recording of import entries to confirm proper declaration of goods. Identify and resolve discrepancies.- Audit commercial invoices against purchase orders to ensure proper pricing, proper quantities, and resolve discrepancies.- Provide guidance and support to internal teams regarding trade compliance matters, including but not limited to, HS classifications, incoterms, valuation, and proper documentation requirements.- Request, record, and monitor post summary corrections, protests, and other entry related changes.- Monitor Importer Security Filings (ISF)
to address errors or late filings.- Monitor and record US Customs payments and receipts and reconciliation of ACH program.- Maintain electronic records in accordance with the company recordkeeping policies.- Support of the Trade Compliance team with changes and updates to the Trade Compliance Policy Manual.
What you bring- Bachelor's degree in related field, preferred.- 5+ years of relevant industry experience.- Licensed Customs Broker preferred; Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) certification or other similar licensing/certification considered, depending on level of experience.- Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite.- Working understanding of CBP’s ACE Portal.- Experience with Oracle ERP is a plus.- Ability to review and interpret import regulations, corporate policies,
and procedures to ensure compliance.- Engage in continuing education of customs and trade regulations to keep current and identify risk and/or opportunity.- Strong analytical skills.- Excellent Communication skills in Spanish and English (written and verbal).- Self-starter with the ability to work independently, speak up, and meet deadlines.
