Chief Operating Officer Insurance, Mexico
**Role Purpose**
Accountable to the Global COO, and relevant Country CEO.
The HSBC Country COO is positioned as a key role in the senior management layer within Country. The COO is responsible for driving the execution of Group and Local strategies, understanding the impact on the customer and business and prioritizing transformation activity in order to mitigate any risks. The Country COO is responsible for ensuring the effective operations of Insurance and driving the delivery of professional services to enable seamless insurance operations. This role has accountability for ensuring Country compliance with all local regulatory requirements.
**Principal Accountabilities**:




- Active and engaged member of the Country senior leadership team:
- Provide leadership within Country, driving the people agenda and role modelling the HSBC values. Active role in people leadership within Country
- Represent HSBC in Country with regulators, government and other third parties. Protect the HSBC brand in Country by challenging behaviour that may expose the brand to regulatory, consumer or media criticism
- Represent the Country across the HSBC Group
**Direct**
- Proactively engage with stakeholders across the Group COO Community, Global Businesses and Global Functions to ensure local needs are understood at a Group level, informing the definition of strategy and Global Standards
- Identify any Group requirements which may impact Country compliance with local regulatory requirements, engaging with the necessary stakeholders to veto this activity
- Represent local Country interests in Group COO strategy definition and resulting initiatives, supported by the Global COO
- Proactively drive Group COO strategy and objectives within Country
**Transform**




- Drive the transformation of HSBC in Country through the effective execution of core transformation and local initiatives
- Ensure transformation initiatives are fully embedded, creating sustainable change
- Lead and direct specified complex projects in Country, currently includes:
- Digital strategy
- Insurance New Platform
- IFRS17
- Data Management Program including BCBS
- Insurance Streamlining PSC
**Protect**
- Drive Operational Risk Management in Country.
- Support ISR to ensure Country business continuity plans are regularly reviewed and approved.
- Close interaction with Global Businesses, Global Functions and HOST Functions in Country, to ensure effective governance structures and processes are in place.
- Country input into Global Risk Data Programme, RBWM Global Standards, Risk,



Operations and Finance Data Strategy Projects work streams.
- Work closely with the ISR team to maintain an updated inherent and residual risk of the Cybersecurity risk by assessing, evaluating and reviewing the plausible global scenarios that might have an impact locally.
Requirements
**Improve**
- Identify opportunities to drive cost reduction, resulting in sustainable saves and achievement of cost targets. Execute in agreement with Group and Local stakeholders
- Provide constructive challenge to existing practices/proposed initiatives and generate new and innovative solutions to address complex issues facing the Country. Execute in agreement with Group and Local stakeholders
- Ensure quality of services & processes provided to our customers
**Drive**




- Work in partnership with the CFO to manage the total cost base of the Country; including setting, monitoring and managing the budget for the Country
- Control and oversee day to day operational activities within Country, working with Global Business, Global Function and HOST stakeholders to resolve any issues identified
- Work with Global Business, Global Function and HOST stakeholders to ensure effective implementation of timely, relevant and cost efficient end-to-end technology and operations solutions.
**Major Challenges**
- To manage effectively in a matrix organization across diverse stakeholder groups
- To stay abreast of external developments in regulation, market trends and competitor activity within Country
- To respond to constantly increasing regulatory demands within existing capability and capacity constraints
- To maintain broad oversight of all Global Business,



Global Function and HOST operations within Country
- To effectively deal with a range of complex issues with conflicting and changing priorities
- To manage the balance between effective execution of day to day operations and services, whilst driving a substantial transformation agenda
- To effectively manage the delivery of HOST services that do not sit within direct control of the Country
- To operate in a reduced cost environment, driving the achievement of sustainable cost savings within Country
- To achieve the above whilst effectively ensuring that risk is well managed within Country
- To challenge the status quo with peers across the Global Businesses, Global Functions and HOST
